Teele has been gathering cattle on horse back for Spring Round-Up and found this in the desert. He just knew I would LOVE it and he was right! It is a cute child's rocking chair and it was in very good shape for having lain in the desert sun for who knows how long. As you can see it was dirty and full of spider webs but they washed off nicely. I wanted to give it a make-over so after some thought I came up with an idea that received more than a few raised "eye brows" and a couple of blank stares. So I worked on it all day and had to share the finished results.
First I cleaned it up. Hammered in the loose nails and sanded it with 220 grit sand paper. Then I spray painted it sunny yellow. I'm showing you the paint can because this little attachment is one of my favorite things! It keeps your thumb from getting sore/numb.
I taped off the areas I didn't want to paint.
Then I traced the back slats of the chair creating a pattern and taped it to some fabric and cut it out.
Then I lay a piece of paper on top of the seat and with the side of a crayon I started coloring. It made a nice patten for each of the bottom slats. I then cut out strips of fabric for each slat.
I also made a pattern for the top of the arm rests. It was easier to just tape the pattern to the fabric-no slippage (is that even a word?).
Apply a coat of Mod Podge
Place fabric on top. I smoothed it out with my finger tips and trimmed my edges.
Then I applied another coat of Mod Podge
When I spray painted the chair some of my paint "ran" and I was pretty upset. I'm not the best at spray painting. Anyway I decided to cut out shapes from the fabric and cover those "oops" up. I think it turned out pretty cute!
It was my first time using Mod Podge and I LOVE it! I think I have to do another project.

I think it looks amazing! Love the colors! I can only imagine the fights that will be had between Trey and Jayden...who gets to sit in the chair! It turned out nicely! I still can not believe old man found out in the desert that part is cool!
That is adorable Liz! Good job!
That is so dang cute! don't you love it when a find like that falls into your hands, especially when it is so easy to repair, etc.
what a creative thing you did to that old chair. I love things like this. You're so talented to think of that. I'm sure the kids will love it.
Liz...that is awesome!!! i wish i was that talented...i would never have thought to add all those creations...i just thought you were going to just paint..but this is like...totally new chair! You did awesome!!!!
I love it Liz! Would you come up here sometime and help me do that to an old chair and I even have an old school desk. They are both sitting outside getting all weathered and I would love to fix them up but I definitely do not have a lick of craftiness in my bones (except the mean kind Ha Ha) You are so talented Liz!!
That is so cool! I can look at something and see possibilities, but I lack the creative gene to make them into those possibilities! You are amazing! ((Hugs))
that is adorable!
Way to stick with your idea even amongst the raised eyebrows!
It turned out beautifully!!
Mod Podge is amazing. I use it to make frames in a similar manner. Nice job!
This turned out so great!
