Again consider yourself warned-photos are graphic
Teele went to the hand surgeon yesterday for a check up. I asked him if he was scared/nervous and he looked at me and said, “No why?” I’m a baby and would have been scared of it hurting! But Teele has been a real trooper through all of this. They gave him a block at Mountain Vista and the surgeon at St. Lukes didn’t have faith in the one he already had so he gave him a second one, “Just in case”. That was good for Teele because he was in very little pain until Monday.
The MA removed the bandage and I immediately didn’t like what I saw but I kept my mouth shut. (That can be a hard thing for me to do) Then the Dr. walked in and said, “OH NO! That’s not what I wanted to see! It’s not as good as I had hoped but I’ve seen them blacker.” He gave Teele’s finger a really HARD squeeze to see if there was any puss and that’s the first time I saw Teele want to cry. Since the Dr.’s “squeeze” he has been in a lot of pain. I felt so bad for him.
So here are the pictures of the skin graft.
You can see the finger beside it is also cut and that hurt him more than the “bad” finger the first few days.
The skin, as you can see, turned black. Not the healthy pink we were hoping for. The Dr. decided to leave it alone for one more week hoping the grafted skin would serve as a band aid and help in the healing/growth of new skin underneath. As he was leaving the room the Dr. turned and said, “Keep praying” so we are. We are thankful there is no infection because if it becomes infected they will have to amputate. So it was good news-bad news for us.

Oh no!!! I can't believe that it is that black! I pray that it heals and they won't have to amputate! I have been so worried about dad's finger!
Man O' man!
Poor guy doesn't even whant to hear that his skin graph isn't working. I feel so bad for him that just sucks. Again LOVIN the pictures!
well i WAS hungry. now i'm just nauseas. hopefully it gets better!
Oh my stars, that is something else. We'll keep praying that it comes out OK. Did it damage the bone? I wondered if they reattached the blood supply. It seems like that would've helped.
You are all in our prayers. That doesn't look too encouraging and it never helps when the Dr. says, "oh no"... We will pray that it will turn a nice rosy pink color and baffle them all! :-) Hang in there, Teele! And especially, hang in there LIZ!!
Sharron he lost quite a bit of bone. The tip of the finger bone was lost then when he "turned the corner" and sawed down the length of the finger he cut the bone completely in half length wise. They had to throw all of that away. So the bone he has from the second knuckle to the tip is skinnier since he lost half of it. Hope that makes sense. :) They don't re-attach blood supplies with the skin graft.
Oh my, we'll keep praying for him! He's a tough guy, but I can't imagine having a doctor squeeze such an injury and not bursting into tears. I hope it turns out well.
Yes we hope he get's better Liz~
We saw you earlier at church and we wanted to come and give you both hugs and a bit of encouragement for poor Teele but then we got to talking and completely missed you guys...we will keep him in our prayers..will let Danny know, especially, to say prayers for Bro Reidhead....it does look very painful, though...hang in there..especially the caregiver..keep smiling..these are just mere moments....love you both!
